Production Sub-Editor (Remote)

We are recruiting for a production hub sub-editor to join Tindle Newspapers’ professional layout and subbing team.

While Tindle Newspapers is passionate about hyper-local news, we have a team of subs who put the papers together behind the scenes, and you will be joining them.

Primary Tasks

  • Work as part of a production hub to produce the group’s hyper-local printed newspaper products.
  • Liaise with the regional digital editors to identify enough content for all pages of the paper, and front pages.
  • Use auto-pagination to layout pages, before checking and tweaking pages for accuracy and to ensure they fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use auto-pagination software to fill the printed newspaper, prioritising content for specific pages only when required.
  • Push submitted content through to the newspapers.
  • Check pages to ensure copy, headlines and captions fit.
  • Lay out and produce eye-catching front pages, tweaking with InDesign when required.
  • Liaise with advertising / commercial content writer to lay-out advertising features across multiple titles.
  • Work to produce advertising supplements following discussion with the advertising teams / Editorial Director / Managing Director.

Each sub “specialises” in a region but must be prepared to work across the group portfolio as business needs require.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience of subbing copy and layout.
  • Journalism degree or diploma or equivalent is essential.
  • Media Studies qualification or NCTJ recognised qualification is desirable.
  • Atex/InDesign knowledge is desirable.

We offer a competitive salary of between £23,000 and £25,000 per year DOE, 25 days holiday + bank holidays, enhanced sick pay, and access to NEST Pension.
