Irreverent news website acquired by Tindle as part of digital growth plans

An irreverent news website for the Isle of Man has been acquired by Tindle Newspapers Ltd.

Isle Of Man Newspapers, part of the Tindle group, have completed the purchase of digital media platform Gef the Mongoose to strengthen their online reach on the island.

Founded in 2017, Gef the Mongoose publishes Isle of Man news and information with a distinctive and irreverent tone. The website will operate alongside the new owner’s brands, including Tindle news website Isle of Man Today.

Gef founder Kate Hegarty joins the newspapers as Development Director. Kate said: “We are delighted to have joined IOM and Tindle to continue to build on the success of Gef the Mongoose.

“Since our launch five years ago, the brand has resonated with islanders across all demographics and the platform enjoyed sharp organic growth across all digital and social channels. Having built up an engaged audience, we look forward to further success with IOM and Tindle.”

Tindle Managing Director Scott Wood said: “We are pleased to welcome the Gef team to our growing digital offering for digital audiences.

“The acquisition is part of Tindle’s evolution from a print-focussed business to a multimedia news organisation incorporating digital, video, social, apps and more.”
