Tributes paid to Brecon and Radnor Express ‘lynch-pin’ Melanie ‘Mel’ Lewis

Colleagues at the Brecon and Radnor Express were shocked to learn last week of the sudden death of friend and colleague Melanie ‘Mel’ Lewis after a short illness.

Well known throughout the business community Mel had been a key member of the B&R’s sales team for almost 30 years.

Away from work she was equally well known in the equine community as a leading breeder of miniature horses, showing for many years both locally and on a national stage.

“Mel was the lynch-pin of the Brecon and Radnor Express and there can’t be many people in the area who didn’t know her,” said editor Liz Davies.

“She made me feel hugely welcome when I first came to the paper three years ago and was the best person to have at my side for much of the covid pandemic when her local knowledge and straight talking was invaluable.

“I’m pleased that she became a friend as well as a colleague and I, and everyone at the paper will miss her enormously.”

Deepest sympathy

Tindle Newspaper’s Wales and the Borders commercial director Paul Higman said: “Mel was tough but also very kind and I for one will miss her support. She was always to be relied upon for sensible advice and straight talking – whether you wanted it or not.

“There was also a lot of laughter in the office when Mel was around,” he added.

“We all send our deepest sympathy to John, Becky and Mel’s mother Doreen.”

Mel leaves her husband John, daughter Becky and mother Doreen.

The team at the Brecon and Radnor Express posted on the title’s website: We know that Mel was well liked and respected by customers she worked with over the past 30 years and will happily pass any messages on to John, Becky and Doreen
