The Cambrian News is among the finalists for a prestigious media award, with the hope of holding on to the title won last year.
Our Welsh publication, established in 1860, beat out rivals from across the nation to win the Newspaper of the Year accolade at the Welsh Media Awards gala in Cardiff last year.
The title is in the running for the same award in the latest list of finalists to be announced by organiser the Journalists’ Charity.
The awards recognise individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and contribution to journalism in Wales in both English and Welsh.
After an experienced team of judges comprising senior journalists from Wales and around the UK reviewed the entries, the winners will be revealed at the awards dinner to be held at Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel on Friday 15th November.
Editor Mick O’Reilly said: “We at Cambrian News are delighted to have neem named as one of four finalists for Welsh Newspaper of the Year award. We won the title last year and will be very glad indeed if we can retain it.
“This year, we’re up against competitors at the Western Telegraph, the County Times and the Rhyl Journal. The result will come at a gala Welsh Media Awards banquet in aid of the Journalists’ Charity in Cardiff on 15 November.
“The nomination is a testament to the work we do week in, week out, providing you with the best comprehensive package of news, opinion, sports, business, farming, arts and entertainment across west Wales in print and online.
“Each week, more than 150,000 people visit cambrian-news.co.uk and our print sales, despite the challenges faced by news outlets, remain robust.
“We take pride in what we do, and we cover the news without fear or favour. And it’s nice to see our peers recognise the quality of our work.”
In July the Cambrian News team celebrated after their website topped a table for user engagement for the third time in seven months.
The Cambrian News team topped monthly figures for the amount of time users spent on their website in June in comparison to the entire UK regional news media, with each user spending an average 8.89 minutes on the site.
They also took top spot in December and March.
