Editor Alan honoured as Crediton Citizen of The Year

Crediton Courier editor Alan Quick has been named the town’s Rotary Citizen of the Year for our news brand’s community impact.

After last month being honoured with a special award in recognition of his support for a longstanding local business at an evening to celebrate 50 years of Devon’s Mole Avon Country Stores, Alan’s efforts were recognised again with a Rotary prize.

President Fred Oliver said: “Alan was the unanimous choice reflecting the enormous amount of work that he puts in to ensuring the continued success of the Crediton Courier.

“The Courier is an essential noticeboard for all that is happening in the Crediton area, both online and in print.”

Mr Oliver thanked Alan for all the work he puts in every week to produce the paper and presented him with a plaque and a certificate.

In addition, a cheque for £50 will be sent to Crediton Town Council Youth Service, a charity chosen by Alan.

The award has been presented annually for almost 30 years.

Alan is active in the local community, representing the Courier at a range of events.

Last month he was the guest speaker at a meeting of Crediton Ladies Circle, held at the Boniface Centre in Crediton.

Alan talked about the history of the newspaper, his years of work at the newspaper over the years, about changes in technology and how it is now a digital-led multi-media business offering a news and advertising service for the area.

The Courier began in December 1974 and Alan talked about how it started as a monthly publication before becoming fortnightly and then weekly and about the digital aspect where news is accessible within minutes on the Courier website and social media sites.

Alan also spoke about interesting and humorous stories and incidents he has reported on during his long service with the newspaper.

He was thanked for presenting an amusing and informative talk and the Ladies Circle, in thanks, sent a donation on Alan’s behalf to his nominated charity, Devon Air Ambulance.
